Teaching adults how to read and write is a useful, necessary, and rewarding job.

Teaching adults how to read and write is a useful job. Having people teach literacy courses is interesting for society as a whole because it can rely on impressive professionals in the future that would be just unknown and hopeless individuals before achieving a higher level of education. For instance, Ryan Evans is the owner of this famous company called RE located in Paraná, Brazil. He’s already made a small fortune with his business, and nowadays, he exports his products all over the world. All his hunger for a really successful future gave him all the strength he needed to go through all the obstacles and score a hit in his carreer. It thrived from the get go, since he was teaching math and Portuguese (I don’t quite understand what you are trying to say here :( ). Unlike what it seems, Ryan wasn’t born in a wealthy family that provided him conditions to start his business without worrying if it would bring them money or not. His family went hungry when he was younger, and obviously they couldn’t pay for Ryan’s study. But instead of making him give up on his hopes, his sadness and miserable youth brought him a will to persevere in the long run. Volunteers of a caring-group taught him the basics of what he would have learned at school. Such experience revealed in him a natural and impressive talent with numbers, encouraging him to keep on studying and trying out experiences just like those he was always facing in his physics books. He followed these ideas and got on with his life. At 19, he had already created even some machines made with simple material. Once, while walking near a university looking for “useful garbage”, he ran into a college professor and ended up showing him one of his inventions. With an eye-catching look and an ingenious shape, the invention simply fascinated the man, who instantaneously hired him to produce a small project for him that with all the credits would be exposed in the university science fair. The project was elected the best one and he received a check of five thousand reais. With so many important people there, he freaked out. From that day on, things prospered to Ryan and his family who didn’t have to worry about money anymore. He opened RE and is now living the life of his dreams. He would never have discovered this hidden talent if it wasn’t for the volunteer group and their job. That’s why it’s a very useful job: it uncovers people’s talents and helps technological progress.

Second, teaching adults how to read and write is a necessary job. One of the mainly reasons why there are a lot of illiterate people around the world is the lack of oportunity of going to school for many different motives such as not having enough money to pay for it. To bridge this gap for those who didn’t have this chance of attending school as a child, it is really important to have someone teach them at least the basics. Otherwise, it will be extremely hard for them to find a job that would provide them a satisfactory economic situation so that he/she will be able to provide a solid education to his/her kids in the long run. For instance, Juliana Correa, a 27-years-old receptionist at a local gym, has never gone to school. She’s the daughter of a single mother who dropped out of school before high school because her mother couldn’t pay for her studies. And instead of trying to get a job to help her mother and in the future go back to school, she prefered to do nothing. When Juliana was born, the same ‘end’ was expected of her. But differently from her mother, she preferred to try to get a job to at least start a simple, but worthy life. By knocking at all the neighborhood doors, she met a woman called Giovana dos Santos who hired her to clean the garbage and to do most of the house chores everyday for a fair salary. At the age of 19, she had already saved up enough money to buy a really small room so she could have her own place and start her own life. At that time, she was working as Giovana’s daughter baby-sitter and earning more money than she was at the beginning. She organized her life so as she could have time to work at Giovana’s and also be able to look for a second job. Unfortunately, no one was interested in her because she had never applied school. Noticing Juliana’s problem, Giovana was shaken. She considered her part of the family, once she’s working there since her youth. As she truly believed in Juliana and in her promissing future, she decided that from that day on, she would be responsible for Juliana’s education. She started giving daily classes to her of all subjects in order to improve all learning skills. A couple of years later, she had developed a solid base and was finally fit for a higher paying job. She went to a local gym and they hired her as a receptionist. Day by day, her responsibility and effort to do a great job was turning clearer to everyone, including her boss who recognized that her talent would go beyond those simple chores. Seeing how hard-working of a person Juliana was, her boss decided to give her a higher position job as an incentive. She became the receptionists’ supervisor and being noticed by important people there made her job stability guaranteed until nowadays. Just like Juliana, many people’s career could start and increase if they had access to education. And considering that most of them don’t have money to pay for it, someone has to teach them, even as a volunteer job. And that’s why providing instruction at least the basics to those people is a necessary job.

Third, when a person spends some time and energy to teach people the basics like reading and writing and he/she can see their evolution day by day and see how thankful these people get. It’s one of the most rewarding and gratifyng jobs in life. For instance, I’ve been teaching adults how to read for a couple of years as a volunteer on my old school project. Last year, I had a student called Didi who worked as a maid her whole life so she could have something to eat everyday, and because of need, she had never been able to go to school. Now, she’s almost 50 years old and decided to give herself a chance to learn how to read. In the beginning, she was really shy. Somedays, I couldn’t even hear her voice, but not because it was loud but because she didn’t speak at all. She was ashamed of herself. Once I talked to her, and tried to encourage her to practice her reading skills in front of everybody because they were all there to learn just like her. I told her she was doing pretty well and somehow I helped her increase herself self-esteem. From that day on, she’s been doing her best to read better and better. And just seeing that smile on her face whenever she started reading big texts without any help was the best thing in the world. The thing is that no matter how much adults reading and writing skills evolve. What is important is to  always give them and the teacher one of the best feelings ever. (Where is your concluding sentence?)

Although Brazil is one of the best countries in surf, we don’t have a World Champion, while other coutries already have, like Australia, Hawaii and USA. The asnwer for that is in the local waves, sponsors and determination.

The brazilian waves don’t prepare our surfers for the best waves in the world. Brazil is known for it’s beautiful beaches with sand and sun, but for the surfers, Brazil doesn’t have the best beaches in the world. The waves of the world tour of surfing are strong, powerfull and dangerous, usually they happen not in sand, but in rocks and reef. Very diferent from the Brazil’s waves. The high of the waves very diferent too. Fernando de Noronha, one of Brazil’s best wave, is 5 or 6 feet, while other waves, like Teahupoo in Tahiti is 7 feet or more, and it’s not in sand, but in reef. The brazilian surfers learn how to surf in small waves in Brazil, that’s why they don’t have the same results when they compete abroad, in stronger waves.

It’s harder for a surfer to compete without sponsors, and brazilians have dificult to find one. Brazil is not a developed country, diferent from other potentials countrys in surf, and a lot of our surfers were very poor when young. That make them harder to find a big brand to sponsor them. Vitor Ribas, for example, was the number 3 in the world ranking in 2000, the best brazilian result ever, and now, he is competing in tour by his own, without sponsors, very diferent from the 8 times world champion, the american Kelly Slater. He has a lot of sponsors for diferent things. Even his cell phone bill he doesnt pay, due the fact that he has a cell phone company sponsoring him. Big multinational brands don’t want to sponsor brazilian surfers and it’s much harder for a surfer when he has to pay to compete.

Determination is essential for someone to be a world champion, something that our surfers doesn’t have. We know that Brazil doesn’t have the best waves in the world, but our surfers need to have more determination and stay a long time surfing and training in big and stronger waves, like in Hawaii and Australia, to be ready for the world tour. Kelly Slater, for example, was born in California in a beach with small waves, Cocoa Beach, but he became the best surfer in the history because he trained a long time in the strong waves of Pipeline, Hawaii. Also Mick Fanning for example, he arrived almost 1 month before the start of competition in each stage of the tour, just training. If our surfers were more determined and decide to surf in stronger waves instead of staying in Brazil in vacation, maybe we would have a world champion.

If developing countries want to become industrial countries, governors  should try to fine tune the life of their people, helping them with food suply, education and medicine.

First, most of the people in developing countries don’t eat properly because they don’t have enough money to buy a variet of food. Their food habits are based on carbohydrates. The lack of certain elements such as proteins and vitamins that people find in fruits or in meats may cause the process of the development of  body and brain to slow down. If the government provides a varied amount of  food to the needy people, these people might grow up healthier, with a better disposition to have a job and improve the country.  In the bondocks of Sao Paulo, there were cases that families don’t have any other food besides corn, so what happened was that they started stuttering because of the lack of vitamins. Thus, if a country doesn’t invest the minimum in a proper diet to its people, there is no way for the country to be considered a developing country.

Second, educated people have different view of their problems. They are more sensitive to look for solutions, because of the knowlodge that they acquire while studying. So, the government should not only provide space in schools for everybody, but also give incentives to those that want to study. The country only wins with better educated people. But what happens in a developing country is that not  everybody that has the same opportunity to study. For instance, public schools in São Paulo have limited space for students and families with more than two children. They are not allowed to enroll the third child in the school, so not only the country is losing a potential child to study, but also the child is missing out on the opportunity to have a degree and maybe be later not be named the undergod.  A country cannot succeed financially if it doesn’t care about the education of its people, increasing the probability of a country to never develop.

Third, the prices of medicine are increasing day after day, and nowadays, it is almost impossible even for the middle class to buy it. Sometimes, the lack of medicine in hospitals for needy people ends up in tragedy. Some diseases such as cancer and HIV should be provided by the government for free. Adolescents that don’t have enough money to buy pills end up pregnant most of the time and giving birth to unwanted child, illustrating the picture of a developing country. According to a specialist Carolina Saad, graduated in medicine from USP, she says that 60% of the mothers that didn’t want their kids give them to charity.  The whole chain of minor elements could be solved with little effort. Therefore , there are certain improvements that the governor could offer in order to help its people to influence the country to become more developed.
