Grace – Final

December 11, 2007

It is a challenge for students to choose an area of study at the university. They must seek appropriate information on the profession, search for the possibilities of affordable colleges, and do not allow themselves to be influenced by their parent´s desire.

First, having appropriate information on the profession is a key element in chosing an area of study. It is very important for students to know more details about their future profession, like the main activities that the profession involves, difficulties in getting a job, and salary range. And the best way to get this information is to ask the professionals in the specific areas. In Arujá, the main private school has a program through which the students can visit companies and spend one day as an intern. The director of the school claims that the program is a success because becoming part of it is not an obligation, but all the students get involved and confess that the such program helps them choose their future profession. Therefore, to get to know their future profession in more depth is an important step in choosing an area of study.

Second, when students are in the process of chosing a profession, they have to search the possibilities of colleges are more financially apropriate for them. One important analysis that the students have to do when they are choosing an area of study is how much the course in each college they intend to apply for costs. According to the Teaching Departament in Brazil (Hummm, what does it really mean? Grace, even if you are inventing the name, you would need to make it more realistic; otherwise, your text loses credibility), students give up on college because they don´t have the financial conditions to go through the entire course. Therefore, when chosing an area of study it is important to search for alternatives of colleges in terms of costs.

Last, the choice made by the students about an area of study shouldn´t be influenced by their parent´s desire. One difficulty in choosing an profession is to do it based on what they really want despite their parent´s desire. I grew up believing (Grace, is this where you stopped in your composition in class?)
