Vanessa — Personal Letter

October 22, 2007

Dear Rick,

I do not have much experience in writing but I enjoy doing it.When I was younger I used to write poems and short stories.Like I said before I do not have much time, so most of the writing that I do nowadays is inside of the class at Mobile.I do not feel that I am a good writer because I believe that I have to improve a lot my skills on writing. For example, I usually repeat in a composition the same word many times and this makes the writing boring. Also, I need to use different words to make the composition more “rich”.I am working very hard in writing at school because I want to be a journalist.

This bimester I want to set a goal for myself: I want to use in my writings most of the new vocabulary and also to write with the correct structure.I am more interested in working on vocabulary and form.

I will be very pleased if you help me to improve my english writing.I beleive that a good way to improve writing is to read. Can you reccomend any book to me?

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Vanessa

Vanessa — Being Born a Girl in my Family — Draft 1

October 22, 2007

I was born in a family descended from Libano. In arabian society, that is very male oriental, the girl can not do what the man do.

I was overwhelmed when I was raised.I was not allowed to do what my brother was doing. My parents are always very worried when I go out, calling me at least once. Now that I am almost 18 my parents begun to worry that I do not know ho to take a bus.For example, my brother is 13 years old and my mother let him walk alone in the streets but my mother only let me go out and walk alone on the streets last year. Also, my mother already allow my brother to go to the disco, my mother only let me when I was 14 years old.

So I try a lot to convince my parents to let me go out or to travel with my friends.Well, I want to go to Porto Seguro and my father don´t like the idea but I am trying to convince them to let me go.
