Lully — Introduction
October 16, 2007mm… My name is Lucía, that’s because I was born in Uruguay. I came to live here when I was two, so I consider myself brazilian.
I study at a jewish school since I’ve started living here. I really like it. But now I’m applying for an american school, Graded School, because I want to go to college abroad.
I REALLY like singing, that’s pretty much what I do in my free time. I don’t have much(free time), because I need to study and I have all this extra curricular activities. I have to admit that I’m overwhelmed.
It might seem a little weird, but I don’t like soccer that much, like most people. Actually, I don’t like sports at all, as a matter of fact, I don’t do any. But I think soccer games are pretty exciting and I root for São Paulo since I was a little kid.
GG. ;]
Lucia,
I am quite curious to see how much of the Uruguayan culture you have retained in you, after all, your mom is Uruguayian and you have had contact with her all along. What does it really mean to say that you feel Brazilian?
I also have another question for you to think of. I am not so sure that I agree with religious schools, because they give me the impression of segregating anyone who is different from them from the rest of society. Obviously, I am speaking from an outsider’s point of view, especially of someone who grew up in America where cultural mixing is highly valued. I don’t mean to judge you or your school at all here. I am just trying to understand it better.
Oh, and I didn’t know about your singing. Maybe you can show us in class someday. Also, I am quite happy SPFC’s number of fans is growing by the miliseconds. (laughters)
Rick
Hi Lucia,
I would love it if you could answer some of the questions I have posed to you in this introduction. That will probably help us find interesting topics for your paper.
Yours,
Rick
PS: Also, because the purpose of this course is to focus on standard English, I think it would be a wiser idea for us to refrain ourselves from using chat language in this blog. I am referring to your response to Marina’s blog entry last week. Maybe it would be a great idea if you revised it in a more formal, standard way of writing. What do you think?
Sincerely,
Rick
