Christiano — Introduction

October 16, 2007

Hi guys. I’m Christiano, 29,  I am from Santos but I’ve lived in Sao Paulo since 1996. I came here to study Business Administration and I realy loved this city so, I decided to find a job here and this decisision changed my life. I never thought I would work in Finantial Market but, believe me, I’ve been working in it for 10 years. I’m almost an addicted. Stock markets, currency markets, words that seems strange to 99% of population sounds like music to my ears. Probably, at this time some people are not interested anymore in my essay as 99% of population but this would be a shame because I have a lot of interesting things to tell.          Rgds,  Christiano

  1. Hi Christiano,

You are one of the few students in this class who loves São Paulo. Many of them used this entry as a way to complain about the city they live in. What is so appealing about it to you? I have always thought that living in a quieter, calmer, smaller city like Santos would be more enticing than facing this hectic lifestyle we have here in São Paulo.

Also, I was quite surprised at the fact that you do enjoy working in the financial market area. Is it the adrenaline that money investment brings? To me, who does not know much about it, it is like gambling with other people’s money in Las Vegas.

Another issue that bothers me a bit is the fact that most people who work in the financial area are very money driven, forgetting about a more humane aspect of life — which I hope has not happened to you. Don’t you agree that if someone is making a lot of money, another one is losing it? Sometimes, I have the sensation that banks and other financial institutions are like sharks who take full advantages of minor parties, like mere citizens like us. What are your views on that?

  2. Rick,

Let’s start from the beggining. I really like financial markets and I admit that there is something about adrenaline addiction or gambling but to be honest, I realy don’t think this represents the bulk of reasons that determined my decision to start working on it. In my case, the main reason to became a financial market trader was the capacity to analyze thing faster than other people. The idea that news brodcasted on TV can change my job in seconds and probably will change the country’s l

  3. Christiano,

The fact that you thrive in this adrenaline rushing environment surprises me. I am the kind of person who loves routine. The less my environment changes around me the better. People may find this attitude towards life boring, but assuring myself that the world around me will not catch me off guards provides me the safety I so much seek from it.

I would love it if you continued explaining how this career choice has shape you into becoming the person you have become nowadays.

    Rick.
